Peter F. Drucker. 1966. The Effective Executive. New York: HarperBusiness.

          Drucker is the doyen of business administration; he is to business consulting what Pele was to soccer. He is the starting point. This book shook me up. It changed my life. The key concept for me was the distinction between being efficient and being effective. Before reading the book, my focus and efforts were upon efficiency and little upon effectiveness. After reading it, at least yearn after effectiveness. There is hope: Drucker states: “I have not come across a single ‘natural’: an executive who was born effective. … Effectiveness can be learned—and it also has to be learned.”
